Our Projects

The schools and communities we serve are amongst the most under resourced in rural Jamaica. The schools lack infrastructure and basic resources. The communities experience high levels of unemployment, low literacy and have limited access to services and amenities.

World Class Jamaica has made notable achievements in transforming infrastructure in local schools. We have completed two major school infrastructure projects in rural Jamaica.

PAST PROJECTS

Nestled in the heart of Westmoreland, Jamaica, Kew Park Primary and Infant School provides education to more than 130 students, from preschool to grade six. For years, the school grappled with serious infrastructure challenges—leaking roofs, termite damage, inadequate toilet facilities, poor lighting, and crumbling walls in the infant section—all of which made it difficult to deliver a safe, supportive learning environment.

Maryland Primary and Infant School WCJ

The Greenhouse Project at Maryland Primary and Infant School. Located in rural Hanover, Jamaica, Maryland Primary and Infant School serves not only as an academic institution, but a central hub for community engagement and development.

Charities in Jamaica

In 2021, World Class Jamaica (WCJ) distributed 310 devices to students across 13 schools in rural Jamaica. This initiative was part of our commitment to ensure that children in deep rural communities could continue their education despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The global health crisis led to the unscheduled closure of schools worldwide, affecting students across the isalnd. While online education advanced rapidly, primarily benefiting urban centers with the necessary technology and infrastructure, rural and impoverished areas faced significant challenges. These communities often struggled with inadequate infrastructure, such as unreliable power and limited internet access, and teachers faced difficulties in supporting online learning. To address these challenges, WCJ launched its first phase COVID Response Program. We identified 310 students from 13 schools across the country as beneficiaries of electronic devices tailored to their educational needs. These devices were fully programmed with educational programs to assist in their learning. Additionally, WCJ conducted training sessions with teachers on how to effectively use Google Classroom to enhance their teaching capabilities.
