Revitalizing Education and Community Through Agriculture
About Project
Located in rural Hanover, Jamaica, Maryland Primary and Infant School serves not only as an academic institution, but a central hub for community engagement and development.

In 2018, in partnership with the Jamaica Agricultural Society Maryland Primary and Infant School established a greenhouse that became a cornerstone for both educational and community development. This initiative allowed students to grow a variety of vegetables and fruits, significantly supplementing the school's lunch program, supporting local community needs, and providing an additional income stream through sales to local retailers.
Challenges and Renewal
Over the years, the greenhouse faced numerous challenges, including severe weather conditions and the global COVID-19 pandemic, which led to its deterioration. Recognizing the critical role this project played in the community, World Class Jamaica stepped forward in June 2024. With a dedicated team and necessary funds, we revitalized the greenhouse, restoring its capacity to serve as a vital educational and economic resource.

Impact of the Revitalization
The renewed greenhouse has had a transformative impact on the students and the broader community:
Educational Enhancement: Students engage in hands-on learning experiences that foster skills in numeracy, literacy, and responsibility. The greenhouse serves as a living classroom where agricultural practices are not only taught but practiced.
Community Support:
The produce from the greenhouse supplements the school's lunch program and helps feed the less fortunate, ensuring that our young learners and their families have access to nutritious food.
Economic Opportunity:
By selling the greenhouse produce to local businesses, students learn valuable entrepreneurial skills while generating funds that are reinvested into their educational environment.
The success of the Greenhouse Project at Maryland Primary and Infant School is a testament to the power of community and education working hand in hand.
